Man suspected of domestic violence now a fugitive from justice

California is a place that about 40 million people call home. A giant melting pot of cultures, The Golden State is a shining example of how residents from all walks of life can come together to create strong and healthy communities. Though California has been able to reduce the amount of violent crime to historic lows, one major issue that still faces the nation as a whole is domestic violence. Domestic violence can affect anyone, regardless of gender, income, and living situation.

Due to the often unpredictable nature of domestic violence crimes, law enforcement is aware that there is the potential for these situations to escalate quickly. Victims may be in a state of distress, and accused offenders may do anything to try to avoid apprehension. In June of 2018, what began as a call for help from a reported victim of domestic violence turned into a police chase that ended with a California police sergeant suffering injuries.

The ordeal began when a woman flagged down a police officer who happened to be stopped next to her vehicle at a red light, informing the officer that she was a victim of domestic violence. Apparently, the alleged abuser was following her vehicle at that moment and slammed into the back of the police cruiser. The officer suffered serious injuries as a result. The suspect fled, and additional police units gave chase.

Police asked for help from the public to locate the suspect, and a resident soon reported a vehicle matching the description given had been abandoned outside his home. Authorities are currently investigating to determine if the vehicle belongs to the fugitive. Law enforcement is currently investigating the incident, gathering evidence from witnesses and surveillance footage that may be available to help bring the man to justice.

When a person becomes the victim of domestic violence, he or she may be afraid and unsure of what to do next. Even when an accused abuser has been apprehended, victims may be afraid to speak up or ask for help because they fear further abuse. Victims and their loved ones should be aware that, in many cases, it can be beneficial to seek the aid of a compassionate attorney familiar with domestic violence laws. An attorney may be able to help victims ensure that no further abuse occurs and utilize resources for protection and justice as they attempt to heal.
