Failing to pay child support can have severe consequences for everyone who owes. The state of California is working to finalize its industry rules and cannabis licensing. Because the commercial industry did not previously exist, they could not use W-2 forms or other income documents to set up payments. Occasionally, receipts from purchases were used to establish payment amounts, but this was on a case-by-case basis and at the discretion of state commissioners. With the legalized cannabis market, it will be easier to figure income for child support payments.
Officials encourage those who owe support to establish a case and request a review with the Department of Child Support Services. Experts agree that the last thing anyone wants to do is limit a parent’s ability to earn money. Their goal is to help bridge the financial gap between mom and dad.
When couples break up, the number one goal for all should be the financial support of the children involved. In California, and in other states, failure to pay child support is against the law.
