Divorced parents can face many obstacles. Even when the amount of child support payments has been agreed upon, they are sometimes hard for the receiving parents to collect. There can be several reasons for this; however, many custodial parents are reaping the benefits of a new state program that was recently introduced in California.
Until this program began, the ways for paying parents to make payments was limited. Now, with this new system in place, cash deposits may be made for a small administration fee at retail locations, including 7-Eleven stores. So far more than $60,000 has been collected in California, almost a third of which was collected in Fresno, where the program was first launched.
In addition to the 7-Eleven store option, a new partnership with Moneygram means that child support payments may also be made using credit or debit cards, as well as cash. Various other retailers, such as Walmart and CVS, among others, can process Moneygram transactions, and more than $3 million has been paid using this means. With California having unpaid child support payments running well into the tens of billions, these new options may prove invaluable.
When child support payments have been set at an agreed level, they should be paid regularly and in a timely fashion. When this is not possible, the court with jurisdiction over the case needs to be notified. California residents who have previously experienced problems in receiving or making these payments may find that these new options help, but, when one continues to encounter issues in receiving child support payments, it is best to seek advice appropriate to the circumstances.
