Will infidelity dating sites cause divorce figures to rise?

There are many reasons why marriages may falter and ultimately fail. Among these, adultery is one of the most common causes for divorce, and it seems as though finding a willing participant is easier than ever with the rise of so-called infidelity dating websites. California residents will be familiar with the recent media storm relating to one such website, whose details were hacked and published on a grand scale.

The website runs a service that allows people to contact each other with the intention of having an extra-marital affair. Tens of millions of subscribers to the service found their details being published, following an infiltration of the website’s security. It is possible that some of the subscribers had not, in fact, acted upon the whim that brought them to the site; however, the fact that one must pay a subscription fee in order to access the service will still cause many spouses to feel betrayed.

When faced with the prospect that one’s spouse has been unfaithful, emotions will surely run high. It can be easy to react on a hair trigger in such circumstances. While one may be entirely justified in feeling hurt and angry, it is always better to consider what has happened and move forward from it with a clear and calm head. One may need to take a step back from his or her emotions and take stock of not only the impact upon the relationship, but of any prospective effects on one’s assets and liabilities.

The decision to divorce is not one to take lightly. It is possible for the initial pain to subside to a point where a couple may decide to try to repair the damage done to the marriage. Where this is not possible, however, California residents need to assess the impact that divorce may have on many financial levels, including things such as debt, income, insurance and even future prospects such as pensions. Gathering together as much information as possible will be of great assistance when seeking advice and guidance appropriate to the circumstances.
