Robin Thicke and Paula Patton may end up sharing child custody

Stars may court fame most of the time, but even they sometimes prefer to keep details of their private lives private. California has a no-fault divorce system, but, even so, it is often more usual to see each party attempt to sully the reputation of the other. Child custody battles may also ensue, and it can sometimes be difficult for a court to determine what is in the best interest of the child — or children — in a high-profile divorce case.

Robin Thicke and his estranged wife, Paula Patton, were recently granted their divorce, which will soon become finalized. In their case, there appears to have been little friction between the two parties, and few details have been made public knowledge. The divorce also appears to have proceeded smoothly, being granted only a few months after papers were first filed by Patton. Thicke and Patton have one son, and it was previously reported that Thicke had requested joint legal and physical custody.

No confirmation has been forthcoming from either party regarding details about custody or financial support. There is speculation that Patton may be granted primary custody; however, custody does appear to be shared at this time. The lack of detail may possibly point to an attempt by the parents to keep their dealings with each other as amicable as is possible.

Remaining on good terms with one’s estranged spouse can reap various rewards. It can assist the ease with which divorce proceedings progress and potentially bring things to a mutually beneficial conclusion in a shorter time. It is also in the best interest of the child for him or her to maintain solid, healthy relationships with both parents, irrespective of the child custody arrangements. California residents going through divorces who are unable to maintain positive relationships with their estranged spouses also have various options available to them. It is always best to seek advice that is appropriate to one’s own situation.
